Thai man arrested for stabbing Danish tourist in Patong

A 27 year old Thai man has been apprehended by Patong Police after allegedly stabbing a Danish tourist early on December 28. The swift action by senior officers at Patong Police Station led to the arrest following the incident which left the tourist injured.

The suspect was detained at a residence on Soi Kralim 6, located off Phra Barami Road in Patong. Law enforcement officials recovered a black-and-red Honda Wave motorcycle, red sneakers, and a black vest, all reported to be used during the incident.

Charges of attempted murder have been laid against the man, as confirmed by Patong Police.

The altercation took place at approximately 3.20am near a hotel by Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road. Reports from the police indicate that the Danish tourist, who was with his Thai girlfriend, was confronted by the suspect after moving aside to urinate.

An argument erupted, and the situation intensified when the man followed the couple, eventually stabbing the tourist in the ribs with a folding knife before making his escape.

The tourist’s girlfriend promptly transported him to Patong Hospital and provided a detailed account of the incident to the police. Utilising CCTV footage, detectives swiftly identified and tracked down the suspect.

By 10pm on December 28, police successfully arrested the individual, taking him to Patong Police Station for further questioning and processing, reported The Phuket News.

No information regarding the Danish tourist’s condition has been released by the police, leaving the public unaware of his current state.

In related news, a Thai man fled from Phuket to Phang Nga after a knife attack on a police officer at Tha Chatchai Police Station, eventually crashing his car and being arrested.

The suspect, 48 year old Choo-ai Phongthin, entered Tha Chatchai Police Station at around 2.50am on November 17 and rushed to the office of inquiry officer, Police Lieutenant Colonel Akkaraphon Wilai.
