A fatal collision on Kata Hill, Phuket has claimed the life of a Russian man after his motorbike collided with a passenger van carrying six Chinese tourists, on Saturday, November 25, according to Phuket Tourist Police.

The incident took place on the stretch between Kata and Chalong, and while the specifics of the collision are yet to be revealed by the police, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) acknowledged the occurrence on Sunday, November 26. Eyewitness accounts and footage from the accident scene have been circulating on social media platforms.

The Phuket Tourist Police addressed this tragic incident in an online statement yesterday, November 27. They bore the unfortunate responsibility of informing the family of the dead Russian man, who had previously reported him as missing since the day of the accident.

The ill-fated man, identified as Vadim Andrianov, succumbed to his critical injuries in the hospital post the accident. The police established during their inquiry that Andrianov was the same person involved in the accident where a passenger van had lost control and hit a motorbike in Karon. His remains are currently at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

The PPAO’s report, which provides a brief rundown of the day’s accidents, revealed that the six Chinese tourists and the driver in the van suffered only minor injuries in the horrifying accident.

The accident had left the Russian man with severe injuries. Images shared with the report showed a disturbing scene where Andrianov was trapped under the passenger van. The van, showing significant damage to its front, had come to a halt on the grassy area next to the road.

Rescue workers made immediate efforts to extricate Andrianov from under the vehicle and rushed him to Chalong Hospital. Despite their best efforts, the Russian man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The tragic incident serves as a sombre reminder of the constant need for vigilance on the roads, and the unpredictable nature of accidents.
