Phuket driver faces charges after fatal hit-and-run incident

A driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident in Phuket turned himself into the police. Police confirmed that the driver will face charges for his actions following the fatal accident that occurred in the early hours of December 14.

The unfortunate event took place around 3.20am along Srisoonthorn Road, near the Bang Jo Intersection in Srisoonthorn. The 22 year old victim, Kunlachat Ampaisan, was riding a green-and-black Honda LS125 motorbike, which was registered in Phang Nga, according to a statement released by the Thalang Police.

Following the incident, Thalang Police collaborated with Cheng Talay Police to investigate and swiftly initiate a search for the suspect.

Police successfully identified the driver as 41 year old Wuttharat Butda, who was operating a white Toyota Yaris 1.2E, registered in Phuket. Wuttharat brought the vehicle involved in the collision to the police station.

“The driver came forward and turned himself in at approximately 10am on December 14.”

The police have since seized the car to gather forensic evidence and assess the damage caused by the collision. A breathalyser test was conducted to determine Wuttharat’s blood alcohol level, and a follow-up blood test was carried out at a medical facility, reported The Phuket News.

Wuttharat is facing several charges, including reckless driving causing death, leaving the scene without offering assistance, and failing to report the incident to the authorities immediately. Thalang Police in Phuket have confirmed that legal proceedings against him are currently underway.
