A brazen thief who stole a car from Patong beachfront on Sunday night was caught just hours later in Chumphon province following a high-speed police chase across multiple jurisdictions.

The 32 year old Thai suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested at 1.10am on Monday, March 3 at the Baan Phala checkpoint in Chumphon. His capture was the result of a coordinated police operation involving officers from Patong Police Station, Pathomporn Intersection checkpoint, and Chumphon province.

Police confirmed that the suspect was caught behind the wheel of a stolen white Toyota Yaris 1.2J CVT, which he had allegedly taken from outside a beach club on Thaweewong Road (Patong Beach Road) at around 8.25pm on Sunday, March 2.

The coordinated response paid off quickly, as officers in Chumphon spotted the stolen vehicle and moved in to intercept the suspect. He was taken into custody without incident, and the car was seized as evidence.

Patong Police confirmed that the suspect was transported back to Phuket along with the stolen vehicle, where he now faces charges of theft and possession of stolen property, reported The Phuket News.

“The suspect has been charged, and the investigation is ongoing,” a Patong Police spokesperson stated.

The swift arrest highlights the efficiency of Thailand’s inter-provincial policing, as well as the critical role of coordinated law enforcement in tracking down criminals attempting to escape across multiple jurisdictions.
