Fire destroys buildings in Phuket Town
A fire has destroyed a building in Phuket Town, damaging nearby buildings before it was brought under control.
Fire fighters at the Phuket City Municipality were notified of the incident at a building near Phuket Bus Terminal 1 in Phuket Town on Phang Nga Road at 8.53am.
About 10 fire engines arrived to find the three storey building was in ablaze. The fire started in the furniture shop inside the building. Workers inside had escaped from the scene. No one was injured.
Strong winds fuelled the fire and helped it catch onto a nearby building. It took about three hours to eventually bring the fire under control.
35 year old Wichai Tongdee, who was working inside the furniture shop says, “I heard someone shout ‘fire’. The fire started on the second floor. We checked for staff and then ran out from the building.”
Police are continuing their investigation to find the cause of fire.
