A Canadian man in a pickup truck yesterday led police on a dramatic, wild high-speed chase across Phuket, leaving a trail of damaged vehicles in his wake before being nabbed in Karon.

The chaos kicked off at 4.45pm, yesterday, January 19, when Patong police were alerted to a fracas outside the Patong Condo Hotel. But just as they arrived on the scene, the perpetrator fled in a black Ford pickup.

The daredevil dash saw him tearing down the roads to Karon, smashing into several vehicles in a bid to evade capture.

Quick to respond, Patong police teamed up with their Karon counterparts to thwart the runaway driver’s escape. The chase culminated at around 5.10pm when Karon Police finally brought the rogue truck to a halt near the Big C outlet by Wat Karon on Patak Road.

The would-be escape artist was identified as 34 year old Samuel Lee Jackson, hailing from Canada but born in Tehran, as revealed by his passport. Riding shotgun was 34 year old Jared Liam Wong, from Vancouver.

During an intense grilling, Jackson claimed he had hightailed it from the altercation after sustaining injuries and was frantically trying to reach a hospital. Following the chase, police whisked Jackson off to Patong Hospital for treatment while Wong was taken into custody for further questioning.
