A 55 year old man miraculously escaped a serious accident after his car smashed into a power pole near Pattaya, leaving the vehicle mangled and the pole precariously tilted.

The dramatic crash occurred on Sunday, January 19 along the parallel road of Motorway Route 7, at Kilometre 111 in Takiantia, Bang Lamung. Jakkrit Ruenarun, the driver of a grey Chevrolet sedan, sustained facial injuries and a bleeding nose but remained conscious enough to recount the harrowing experience.

“I was driving from Pathum Thani to Rayong to visit a friend in Pattaya, but suddenly, I blacked out behind the wheel. When I came to, I found my car had crashed into the pole.”

The collision caused extensive damage to the car’s front end and left the electric pole dangerously tilted, prompting emergency responders to act swiftly. Jakkrit was rushed to Pattaya Pattamakul Hospital for treatment, while local police coordinated with the electric company to repair the pole and restore safety to the area.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident, though Jakkrit’s sudden blackout raises questions about his fitness to drive. Motorway accidents remain a pressing concern in Thailand, with officials urging drivers to prioritise health checks and avoid taking the wheel if feeling unwell, reported Pattaya Mail.

In related news, a tragic accident claimed the life of a 24 year old man when his motorbike crashed into a streetlight pole. He was on his way to pick up his girlfriend for new year celebrations when the fatal incident occurred.

In another report, a 20 year old university student crashed his car into electricity poles along Kanchanaphisek Road, damaging 12 poles and three cars, due to drowsiness caused by antihistamines, a medicine used to treat allergy symptoms. Officers from Phetchakasem Police Station were alerted to the accident at a curve on Kanchanaphisek Road on January 5. Upon arrival, officers found a damaged blue Suzuki Swift hatchback parked at the edge of the footpath.
