A Thai man attempted to drive his wife and her friend into the sea in the eastern province of Rayong yesterday, January 15, due to a heated argument over jealousy and infidelity but failed when his hatchback became stuck in the sand.

The Sawang Phon Kuson Rayong Rescue Foundation and officers from Mueang Rayong Police Station were called to Laem Charoen Beach to rescue a Thai man, later identified as Bom, who jumped into the sea. Bom was initially suspected of attempting suicide due to a frustrating love triangle.

Witnesses reported to rescuers and police that they saw Bom speed his white Honda Jazz hatchback onto the beach but could not go any further when the car got stuck in the sand. Bom then exited the car, followed by two women. A heated argument ensued before Bom ran into the sea.

The two women followed him into the water, disappearing from the witnesses’ view as it was dark at the time of the incident, which occurred at around 3am.

Police and rescuers could not immediately locate Bom or the two women. They found only the white vehicle stuck in the sand. Long strands of hair, believed to belong to a woman, were discovered on the beach near the car.

After a period of searching, the rescue team found Bom and the two women, identified as Bow and Kanokwan, at the breakwater on the beach. They were wet, exhausted, and still arguing.

No love triangle

Rescuers intervened in the dispute and transported the three to a hospital for medical checks. Meanwhile, another team worked to tow Bom’s car from the beach.

Initially, several Thai media outlets reported that Bom attempted a murder-suicide by driving into the sea. It was believed the two women were Bom’s lovers and that they had been arguing over a love triangle.

However, further investigation revealed that the incident was indeed rooted in jealousy but Kanokwan was not romantically involved. Kanokwan’s husband, Mongkhon, explained that Bom and Bow were in a relationship and had been arguing over infidelity.

The group travelled to Rayong together but Mongkhon developed a stomachache and went to a hospital. While Mongkhon was being treated, Bom and Bow continued their argument, leading Bom to angrily drive Bow away in his car.

Concerned for her friend’s safety, Kanokwan joined the couple in an attempt to intervene. Kanokwan’s efforts to stop the fight resulted in her being injured when Bom pulled her hair to prevent her from intervening.

As of now, all three are safe and have reportedly resolved the relationship issues.
