American throws drunken fit in the middle of a Pattaya road

Late-night drama unfolded in Pattaya yesterday when an American tourist, heavily intoxicated and causing a scene, sprawled himself across a busy road, blocking traffic and annoying passersby. The bizarre incident, which left locals and rescue workers baffled, has sparked a wave of online chatter.
At 11.36pm, yesterday, March 25, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit received a call from concerned locals reporting a foreign tourist lying in the middle of Pattaya’s Second Road, not far from Rompho Market.
Rescue teams quickly raced to the scene, only to find the American man intoxicated and lying across the road. Fellow tourists and Good Samaritans had already managed to drag him to the side of the road, but he wasn’t done causing trouble yet.
The man, who identified himself only as an American, angrily shouted at those around him.
“Why is everyone here? Don’t bother me, I want to sleep!”
He then threw himself back down, this time blocking the entrance to a nearby hotel and ignoring the stares of confused onlookers. To make matters worse, he complained about the noise from passing vehicles, saying it disturbed his rest.
Rescue workers, along with concerned bystanders, tried for over 30 minutes to reason with the man, urging him to move to a safer location. However, he was determined to stay put, stubbornly claiming it was his right to sleep wherever he wished.
As the situation grew more tense, the rescue team decided to call the police, but just as they informed the tourist of their plan, something unexpected happened.
The man suddenly sobered up, stood up, and walked away calmly, as though nothing had happened.
Concerned for his safety, Good Samaritans and the rescue workers followed him from a distance, ensuring he made his way back to his accommodation. After he disappeared from view, the rescue team officially called off the operation.
O (nickname), a 36 year old hotel security guard, shared additional insight into the incident. He recalled seeing the tourist earlier that night, staggering and clinging to the hotel gate, but he didn’t think much of it at the time.
“I just assumed he was drunk and continued my duties.”
However, when a crowd began to gather, O went to check the situation, and that’s when rescue workers were alerted, reported The Pattaya News.
While the man’s behaviour left rescue workers scratching their heads, the incident has become the talk of the town, with many people amused by the tourist’s erratic behaviour and sudden change of heart.
