Thai boys post video when killing 33 year old man on social media

Police arrested two Thai boys after they filmed themselves brutally murdering a 33 year old man in a rubber plantation in Trang and posted the shocking footage on social media.

Esor News reported the shocking murder by the young offenders in Trang yesterday, March 25. The page stated that the 14 year old boys took revenge by killing a 33 year old man and proudly shared a video of the fatal shooting on an Instagram account.

The Instagram story, shared by one of the murderers, was attached in the comments section. It featured the lifeless body of the victim, who was wearing a purple shirt and blue trousers, with a caption that read, “Killed one.”

The page insisted that the boys did not blur or censor their violent video, but the administrator took it upon herself to add a “censored” mark over the victim’s body.

The administrator also included a picture of the two suspects in the comments section without censorship.

The page justified this decision by stating that no censorship was applied due to the brutality of their actions and that the two juveniles were already protected under laws governing young offenders.

According to the page, the two young murderers were arrested shortly after their video went viral on social media. Their identities were not disclosed to the public under the Child Protection Act.

Workpoint News reported today, March 26, that the victim was a 33 year old Thai man named Rungrueang Nakwong.

A local mushroom collector discovered his body in the rubber plantation at around 8.30am yesterday. Rungrueang sustained two gunshot wounds near his left ear, and four bullet casings were found at the scene.

Rungrueang’s family revealed that he had left home in the early hours of the morning to deliver kratom leaves to his customers as usual.

The family believe his murder was linked to a drug-related conflict, as he had a history of drug use and dealing.

The two young suspects were arrested at an abandoned house in Kantang district, Trang province. Two .32 guns were seized as evidence. The boys confessed to the murder and claimed that the motive was a conflict related to drugs.

They were charged with intentional murder under Section 288 of the Criminal Law, which carries a penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a prison term of 15 to 20 years for an adult. However, as the perpetrators are juveniles, their punishment will be determined at the discretion of government officials.

What concerned netizens further was a social media post from one of the boy’s friends. One of them shared a group photo with a caption that appeared to encourage and support the boys in their wrongdoing. The caption read…

“Take care, my beloved friends. We will always be friends, and I will always wait for your return (from jail).”

The online community has since urged officials to extend their attention and control to the suspects’ friends as well.
