Volunteers clean flood-hit homes in Nan and Chiang Rai
The Mirror Foundation volunteers have been dispatched to clean houses in Tha Wang Pha, Nan province, and Thoeng, Chiang Rai province. A police deputy inspector generously toured the area, refilling water supplies for various households. This collaboration between strangers is heartening.
Today, August 26, Somphot Boonngamanong, also known as Bor Kor Lai Dot, shared a Facebook post detailing the Mirror Foundation’s house-cleaning mission. He explained that the Tha Wang Pha volunteer centre was established to address the needs of flood-affected residents.
An 85 year old man and a 68 year old woman, faced severe flooding that left them isolated. They rationed their food to one meal per day, uncertain of how long their resources would last. Once the floodwaters receded, they began to clean up their home, but without access to water, their progress was slow and disheartening.
Yesterday, Somphot sent a six-member team from the Mirror Foundation, already engaged in house cleaning in Thoeng, Chiang Rai, equipped with necessary cleaning tools to survey the Tha Wang Pha area in Nan province. The team received a request from local activists to establish a volunteer centre, with around twenty people ready to help.
Despite it being the first day of their survey, the team encountered an elderly couple struggling to clean their flood-damaged home. They immediately decided to use their cleaning equipment to assist. Somphot reported that they completed cleaning the fifth house by early evening, highlighting the fortunate involvement of a police deputy inspector who drove around refilling water tanks for various households.
“The cooperation among strangers on the ground inspired us to form a cohesive team of volunteers who were previously scattered but shared a common spirit of helping those in need.”
Later that night, another ten volunteers from the Dao Din group joined the effort. Dao Din had previously collaborated with the Mirror Foundation on similar missions in Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani. The Mirror Foundation now has two active house-cleaning teams, one in Thoeng, Chiang Rai, and another in Tha Wang Pha, Nan, reported Khaosod
