US Navy’s MV Ocean Valor visit to boost economy in Pattaya

The US Navy is set to make a significant visit to Pattaya with the MV Ocean Valor scheduled to dock at Pattaya Port from September 16 to 19.

Chon Buri Provincial Officials received a notification from the Ministry of the Interior, based on an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the request for docking permission has been approved.

The ship will arrive at 8am on September 16 and depart at 11.59pm three days later. This visit is part of a routine operation, allowing US Navy personnel to disembark for relaxation and shore leave.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this visit is expected to foster good relations between Thailand and the United States. Additionally, it is anticipated to stimulate the local tourism economy, generate income for Pattaya residents, and bring substantial money into the country.

The exact number of sailors arriving has not been disclosed. Nonetheless, the presence of the US Navy is seen as a positive boost for the local economy and an opportunity for cultural exchange between the personnel and the residents of Pattaya, reported Pattaya News.

In related news, Pattaya’s notorious Walking Street played host to around 6,000 American sailors from the US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 9. The sailors, who were on a rest and relaxation visit, arrived in Pattaya on April 24 and departed on April 28.

The visit, marked by their presence in various bars, restaurants, and go-go bars, ended up being a welcome economic boost for the city, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In other news, a deployment of over 4,000 personnel aboard the USS Somerset and USS Miguel Keith was on the horizon for the Cobra Gold 2024, a joint military exercise which took place in Thailand from February 26 to March 8.
