Two boys drown in Loei River tragedy in Wang Saphung

A tragic incident unfolded in Wang Saphung district, Loei province when two 13 year old boys drowned in the Loei River.
The distressing event occurred around 3.30pm, yesterday, April 7, near the Siri Songkhram Shrine in Wang Saphung municipality.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Nattakamon Thaoklang from Wang Saphung Police Station received the report and coordinated with the municipality’s disaster prevention and mitigation office, district officials, and volunteers from Sawang Kiri Tham Foundation for search and rescue efforts.
At the scene, the children’s clothes and mobile phones were found on the riverbank. Despite continuous rainfall, divers from the Sawang Kiri Tham Foundation braved the strong currents and murky waters to search the area.
At approximately 5pm, the body of 13 year old Attaphan was discovered and brought ashore. The discovery was met with the heart-wrenching grief of his mother and family, deeply affecting onlookers.
The search continued with an increased number of volunteers, over 10 divers, to find the second boy, 13 year old Ekaphon. His body was eventually located and retrieved around 7.30pm.
Nopmongkol, another 13 year old boy who survived the ordeal, recounted that he and three friends went to play in the water around 2pm. While one friend stayed near the shore, Nopmongkol and two others jumped into the deeper part near the rubber dam.

Unfortunately, the two boys who drowned could not swim and began struggling. Nopmongkol called for help, and a group of teenagers about 30 metres away managed to save him but were unable to rescue the other two boys, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Lampang province when a two year old boy drowned in the Wang River after straying from his grandmother’s home. The tragedy took place around 5pm on March 26, prompting an immediate response from police and rescue teams.
