Police suspect a Thai woman of burning her father to death in a hut in the Isaan province of Kalasin on January 31. The woman continues to deny the accusation.

The fire broke out in the hut in the Khong Chai district of Kalasin on January 31, and the body of a 73 year old man, Boonliang Jansri, was found inside after the fire was brought under control. Boonliang’s arms and neck were tied with stainless steel wire, and a knife was found near his body.

Police summoned more than 10 people for questioning, including Boonliang’s children, relatives, and local residents. All of them provided the same information: Boonliang frequently drank alcohol and often rested alone in the hut while intoxicated.

Officers concluded that Boonliang’s death was suspicious but have yet to determine the exact cause. His body remains under autopsy. According to the police investigation, Boonliang had never been involved in any conflicts with anyone before.

Boonliang’s daughter, 26 year old Pui, was the last person to spend time with him before his death. Security camera footage showed Pui leaving the hut shortly before the fire broke out.

A local vendor reported to police that Pui visited a grocery store to buy petrol, leading her to become the prime suspect in the case.

Pui admitted to visiting the grocery store but claimed she bought cooking oil, not petrol. She insisted that she was not involved in her father’s death and had no motive to kill him.

She added that her father had only 10,000 baht in cash, which was not enough to interest her.

Pui stated that she had always taken care of her father. She further remarked that if she wanted money, she would be better off killing her husband, as he had a life insurance policy worth over a million baht.

Channel 7 interviewed Boonliang’s son regarding his father’s death. He also insisted that he had no motive to kill his father and could not speculate on who the murderer might be. He expressed hope that the police would arrest the suspect as soon as possible.

The investigation into the case continues, and officers promised to conclude it as quickly as possible.
