Thai man admits killing 2 year old stepson for crying too much
Mother initially defended boyfriend as bruises raised family's suspicions

A Thai man confessed to killing his two year old stepson at a house in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok, claiming the child’s crying irritated him.
The boy, named Kong Beng, was rushed to Sai Noi Hospital in Bang Bua Thong district at around 10pm on Sunday, July 6, after being found unconscious in the family home. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Bruising was observed on his chin.
Kong Beng’s mother, 25 year old Siriya, said the incident occurred while she was at work. Her boyfriend, 24 year old Thanawat, had been caring for Kong Beng and her other five year old son.
According to Siriya, Thanawat phoned her to inform her that Kong Beng had cried to the point of losing consciousness. Her family suspected Thanawat of assaulting the boy, but she initially defended him.

Speaking to the News Non Facebook page, Siriya said Thanawat frequently played with her sons and appeared to love them. He often bought them toys and snacks. However, visible injuries on Kong Beng’s body eventually led her to begin to suspect her boyfriend.

Thanawat initially denied the accusation and said he understood why Siriya and her family were suspicious. He claimed he had left his stepson in a playpen while he went to a nearby convenience store. Upon returning, he heard the child crying and discovered him unconscious.

Officers at Bang Bua Thong Police Station were unconvinced by his account and continued their interrogation. Thanawat later confessed to pushing the boy, causing his head to hit the ground and killing him. He admitted he had been annoyed by the child’s crying and had assaulted him.

Thanawat claimed this was the first time he had hurt the boy, despite neighbours reporting frequent crying from the house when Siriya was not home.
He is currently in custody at the police station. Officers told ThaiRath that further questioning would be conducted to determine all legal violations he may face.
