A Thai man defended himself after his wife accused him of cheating and physically assaulting her after winning 12 million baht in the Thai Government lottery.

The 26 year old Thai woman, Janya Jai-ngam, yesterday, November 21, urged news agencies to share her story with the public and help her in a legal case against her 45 year old husband, Anan, for cheating and assaulting her.

Janya revealed that she married Anan four years ago and lived with him in the central province of Phetchabun. They have a daughter, who is now three years old. Last year, she asked her husband to buy two lottery tickets, number 196, and both tickets won the 6 million baht first prize resulting in a 12 million baht windfall.

According to Janya, they had a financial plan together but Anan reneged on his promise. Anan reportedly spent 3 million baht on land and 2 million baht on building a house. The rest of the money was allegedly spent on alcohol. Janya said Anan only gave her 20 to 100 baht a day.

After getting drunk, Anan physically assaulted her resulting in her fleeing with her daughter to her home province of Buriram. Janya said that her husband later called and told her that he had a new wife and did not want her anymore. This means that her husband cheated on her because they had not yet divorced.

Janya said she did not want to return to the relationship but wanted to sue her husband for money to care for their daughter.

Husband denies allegations

Anan denied all of his wife’s allegations. He insisted that he had never assaulted his wife and had not started a new relationship. He believed that his wife fled the house because of a conflict with his mother.

Anan explained that the conflict between Janya and his mother took place on November 1. His daughter was having dinner with her grandmother when Janya allegedly insisted on taking the girl for a shower. She pulled her daughter’s hand into the bathroom, reportedly causing the girl to choke on her food.

Anan said his mother complained about Janya’s actions, which upset her, and left his house on November 2. He and his wife tried several times to agree but failed, so he decided to block all channels of contact with her.

Anan also insisted that he was working alone and had bought the lottery tickets himself. So, the tickets and prizes were all his.

Anan said he had not sent any money to his daughter because the conflict had not been resolved. He would come to terms with Janya again. He did not reveal how and when he would contact Janya to settle the matter.
