“Let this be a lesson learned. The woman could not get the expected dowry of 150,000 baht and became furious. She came and destroyed our home. We managed to borrow 50,000 baht, but she refused it. #FromLoverToRival Now, she has to pay compensation instead of receiving the dowry.”

According to Channel 8, the couple, 23 year old Wasan and 22 year old Koy, had been in a relationship for some time. The families planned their wedding and initially agreed on a dowry of 350,000 baht. However, Wasan’s family could not afford the amount and renegotiated the dowry to 150,000 baht.

On the engagement day, January 6, Wasan was only able to gather 50,000 baht. Koy and her family rejected this amount, leading to the cancellation of both the engagement and the wedding.

Wasan told the media that later that evening, Koy went to his home and slapped him in the face with a flipflop. She then damaged his motorcycle and entered the house to destroy furniture and other belongings, as shown in the Facebook post.

Despite the incident, Wasan expressed his willingness to continue their relationship if Koy could accept the 50,000 baht he managed to gather.

Koy, however, shared a different perspective in a media interview. She revealed that she recently discovered she was pregnant and informed Wasan. According to her, his attitude changed after learning about the pregnancy. He allegedly became less caring and repeatedly asked to reduce the dowry amount.

Koy also accused Wasan of insulting her and her parents, labelling them as money hungry. She insisted she wanted to end the relationship, even if Wasan managed to gather the full dowry. She claimed his behaviour and lack of respect for her and her parents left her with no choice but to raise her child alone.

The incident sparked mixed reactions online. Some netizens criticised both parties for failing to take responsibility for their relationship and their child, pointing out the lack of contraception. Others sided with Koy, arguing that Wasan and his family failed to honour their promises.

Original story: Vow-ndalism: Bride-to-be wrecks fiancé’s home over unpaid dowry

Pa Faek subdistrict in Phon Charoen district, Bueng Kan province, became the centre of a domestic drama when a bride-to-be went on a rampage, demolishing her future husband’s home over an unpaid dowry.

The incident unfolded the 22 year old woman, Wanida, was left fuming when her fiancé, 23 year old Wasan, could only muster up 50,000 baht instead of the 150,000 baht she demanded.

Wanida yesterday, January 5, reportedly stormed into Wasan’s house in a furious, inebriated state, wreaking havoc on the property, reported KhaoSod. The local online community quickly picked up on the mayhem, sharing the jaw-dropping saga far and wide.

Wasan’s 73 year old grandmother, Boonmee, stepped forward, showing reporters the trail of destruction left in the wake of the rampage. Broken furniture, smashed belongings, and a bruised ego were all on display.

Despite the chaos, Wasan insists he still loves his fiancée.

“She hit me, but I didn’t fight back. She hasn’t reached out or apologised since. I didn’t want this to become public. I just want her to make amends and pay for the damages. As for the marriage, it’s up in the air. I had agreed to pay 50,000 baht, but she wanted 150,000. Still, my feelings for her haven’t changed.”

Family tensions soared when Nonglak, Wasan’s sister-in-law, explained that wanida had previously set the dowry at 100,000 baht and had threatened to terminate her pregnancy if it wasn’t met.

Fed up and furious, Boonmee is determined to seek justice, planning to press charges against Wanida for the damage done to her grandson’s home.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Suphot Phothisuwan of the Phra Charoen Police Station confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that mediation is scheduled for January 6, where both parties will attempt to settle the dispute and discuss compensation.

In related news, a 21 year old Thai woman from the northern province of Kamphaeng Phet accused her former father-in-law of failing to honour a promise to pay a 280,000 baht dowry, leaving her and her family in debt.
