Pheu Thai reshuffles Cabinet, Prasert to lead Interior Ministry
Pheu Thai seeks Interior Ministry control, proposing Anutin as commerce minister

A major reshuffle is in the works for Thailand’s Cabinet, with Pheu Thai proposing a significant change in leadership roles.
The party is set to replace Prasert Jantararuangtong’s current position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society with a new role as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
According to a report from Government House today, June 12, Pheu Thai leader PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai are preparing to inform Anutin Charnvirakul, the current Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior from the Bhumjaithai Party, about the reshuffle.
As part of the reorganisation, Pheu Thai has requested control over the Interior Ministry, with the proposal that Anutin Charnvirakul take on the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce. Sources also confirmed that other ministerial positions held by the Bhumjaithai Party would remain unchanged.
In addition to this change, Jakkapong Sangmanee, the Prime Minister’s Advisor and former Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, is set to take over as Minister of Digital Economy and Society. The reshuffle will also see the United Thai Nation (UTN) Party retain all its current ministerial positions despite internal pressure from 21 MPs, led by Suchart Chomklin, the Deputy Minister of Commerce, who had lobbied for changes.

The UTN Party, led by Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, will maintain its leadership, with Pirapan staying on as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. Other key UTN members, including Akanat Promphan, Suchart Chomklin, and Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit, will retain their current roles in Industry, Commerce, and Defence, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Kla Tham Party is set to make a change in its agricultural ministry. Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, will replace his father, Itthi Sirilatthayakorn, as the new Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The rest of the ministry’s leadership remains unchanged, with Narumon Pinyosinwat as Minister and Akkhara Prompow as Deputy Minister, reported The Nation.
This reshuffle is expected to bring about significant shifts in Thailand’s political landscape, with Pheu Thai asserting greater control over key ministries. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to solidify political power and streamline the government’s operations in the face of growing public expectations.
