A tragic discovery was made in Nonthaburi, with the body of a newborn found floating in a canal, the umbilical cord still attached. Police suspect the baby had been dead for approximately two days and are actively searching for the perpetrator.

Yesterday, September 18, local police from Sai Noi station, along with personnel from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived at the scene following reports of a floating infant’s body in Khlong Ha Roy canal, Moo 2, Khlong Khwang subdistrict, Sai Noi district, Nonthaburi. Medical examiners from the Institute of Forensic Science were also consulted to assist with the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicated that the infant’s body was fully developed and had an elastic band around the umbilical cord, suggesting the death occurred around two days prior.

Daraporn Kongprasert, the 52 year old wife of the village head and a local health volunteer, recounted that a resident had informed the village head about the floating body in the afternoon. Upon inspection, the village head and Daraporn discovered the infant’s body near the canal bank.

Witnesses claimed that the body had floated from a bridge located roughly 20 metres away. The infant was face down, with a still-red body and the umbilical cord intact, fully developed with complete limbs. Daraporn expressed doubt that the infant belonged to a local, suggesting it might have been abandoned by migrant workers, as many live in the area, which contains numerous dormitories and factories.

“It could be from migrant workers, as there are many living around here. In this village, I haven’t detected any pregnant women because, as a health volunteer, I would have been informed of any pregnancies.”

Police have documented the scene and interviewed locals, but no suspects have been identified yet. The investigation continues as the police seek further information and plan to question potential perpetrators, reported KhaoSod.

If this is a case of abandonment, legal action will be pursued against those responsible. The infant’s body has been handed over to the Poh Teck Tung Foundation for further examination at the Institute of Forensic Science.
