Mum’s the word: Thai mother slaps pregnant teacher in bullying row
A furious Thai mother accused a pregnant teacher of bullying and humiliating her daughter before slapping the teacher at a school in Nonthaburi province. Both parties are now pursuing legal action against each other.
A video showing the Thai woman, 41 year old Phakaporn, physically assaulting the pregnant teacher was shared by several news agencies and on Facebook. In the footage, Phakaporn is seen visiting the school and asking her 14 year old daughter, Noi, to identify the teacher with whom she had an issue.
Noi pointed to the teacher in a peach-coloured skirt, and her mother immediately approached the teacher and struck her on the head. A male teacher intervened and asked both parties to calm down. Phakaporn was heard daring the teacher to report the assault to the police and shouting vulgarities at her.
Phakaporn, in an interview with Channel 7 yesterday, 25 September, detailed the issues that led to her assaulting the teacher. She reported that Noi had called her at about 11am, claiming the teacher had insulted her with vulgar language in front of numerous classmates, causing her significant embarrassment.
In response, Phakaporn phoned the teacher, and the conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument. She admitted that both she and the teacher exchanged rude remarks in anger. Later, at 4pm, Phakaporn arrived at the school and assaulted the teacher.
Phakaporn accused the teacher of being unethical, claiming the teacher instructed other students to throw Noi’s shoes in the rubbish, accused Noi of skipping classes, used rude language towards her, and consistently bullied the girl whenever possible.
Phakaporn acknowledged that her daughter was stubborn and difficult. She accepted that the girl should be punished at school for her bad behaviour but she believed the teacher should punish students according to school rules, not based on personal bias.
Channel 3 reported that the teacher underwent a medical check after the assault and reported the incident to Pak Kret Police Station. Meanwhile, Phakaporn and her daughter filed a complaint at the same police station, accusing the teacher of lacking ethics and hurting the girl’s feelings.
The police have yet to provide a conclusion to the case, and no other students came forward with relevant information about the matter.
