A 60 year old man was brutally shot dead while operating his tractor in the heart of a cassava plantation in the Udon Thani Province of Thailand. The incident occurred today, April 24, in the Non Sa-at district, sending shockwaves throughout the local community.

The Thai authorities are investigating potential motives, including personal disputes or romantic entanglements, as they hunt for the assailant.

The victim, Pichit Wongwai, was working alone in the early hours, approximately 3 to 4 kilometres from his village, when the perpetrator, whose identity remains unknown, approached him.

A conversation ensued just 3 metres away from the tractor, which ended tragically when the assailant suddenly fired at close range, striking Pichit in the chest.

Upon receiving a distress call, the local rescue centre, headed by Witya Panlha, coordinated with the Non Sa-at police. Criminal investigator Chinnathip Buakhem and his superior, Police Lieutenant Colonel Patavee Konwimon, were promptly informed and proceeded to the crime scene.

The authorities, along with medical personnel from the local hospital, found Pichit’s body amidst the cassava plants, with villagers gathered around in horror.

Initial inquiries with locals revealed that Pichit had left his home around 4am to flatten the land for his plantation.

The presence of an axe in his hand suggested that he might have anticipated a threat but seemingly did not expect the perpetrator to open fire.

Police speculate that the assailant was likely acquainted with Pichit and that the fatal act may have stemmed from either a love affair or a personal conflict. The investigation is ongoing as the police intensify their efforts to apprehend the suspect and bring them to justice.

The brutal murder has raised safety concerns among the rural community, where such violent incidents are relatively rare.

The police are appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the resolution of this case, assuring that all leads will be thoroughly pursued to ensure that justice is served for Pichit Wongwai and his family, reported Khaosod.
