Thai man arrested on train after faking gunshot story

A 39 year old man was apprehended on a train yesterday following an investigation revealing he fabricated a story about being shot. The suspect, identified as Ma-usman, had accidentally shot himself.
Police Major General Khongkrit Lertsitthikul directed the arrest yesterday, April 20, with the coordination of various police officials including Police Colonel Intharat Panya and Police Lieutenant Colonel Warisorn Matcha. They arrested Ma-usman on train number 169, travelling from Krungthep Aphiwat to Hat Yai Junction in Songkhla province. This arrest came after a warrant was issued by the Narathiwat provincial court dated December 6, 2023.
The case began in December 2023 when Ma-usman sought medical treatment at Rue So Hospital in Narathiwat province, claiming he had been shot. The medical staff reported the incident to Rue So Police Station, prompting a detailed investigation.
It was eventually discovered that Ma-usman had not been shot by another person but had accidentally shot himself. He initially lied to medical personnel due to fear of facing legal charges for firearm possession.
As the investigation progressed, police collected enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant. Ma-usman’s travel plans were uncovered, leading to his capture with assistance from the Railway Crime Suppression Centre under the Central Investigation Bureau and Rue So police investigators.
During questioning, Ma-usman confessed to all charges. These included providing false information to investigators, which could potentially cause harm to the public, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in public without a valid reason or authorisation.
He has been handed over to Rue So Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

The suspect, 29 year old Wichai Praisingh, arrived at the station around 4pm on August 13 last year, claiming to be collecting donations for a monastery in Sam Roi Yot district. He told officers the funds would go toward building a new bathroom and paying the monastery’s electricity bills.
