Let it rain: Heavy downpours to drench Thailand

Bangkok continues to experience heavy rainfall, with temperatures reaching 34°C

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for today across 44 provinces, with the northeast and eastern regions expecting the heaviest downpours. Residents are urged to anticipate potential flash floods and forest runoffs, especially in hilly areas and low-lying regions.

Heavy rains are predicted for the northeast and east. Rain is expected in 51 provinces, with a 60% chance in Bangkok. Farmers should prepare for potential agricultural damage. This weather is influenced by a monsoon trough across the North and upper Northeast, along with a strong southwest monsoon covering the upper Andaman Sea, South Thailand, and the upper Gulf of Thailand.

Waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf are moderate, about 2 metres high, while in the lower Andaman Sea and lower Gulf, waves are 1-2 metres. Areas with thunderstorms may experience waves higher than 2 metres. Seafarers are advised to navigate carefully and avoid stormy areas.

The strong tropical storm Vutip in the Gulf of Tonkin is expected to make landfall in southern China today, June 14. It will not affect Thailand, but travellers to these areas should check the weather before their journey.
