German man critically injured in leap from 3rd floor of Pattaya hotel
A German man yesterday sustained a severe injury after an alleged suicide attempt from the third floor of a hotel in Pattaya.
Officers from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station were called to the luxury hotel on Pattaya Sai Song Road in the Bang Lamung district at approximately 2.36am yesterday, August 13, to investigate the fall of a 21 year old German man, Manuel Marc Norbert.
According to a police report, Norbert jumped from an awning on the third floor and fell through it onto the ground outside the hotel. He was found lying in a pool of blood when officers arrived. Rescuers from the Sawang Borriboon Dhammastan Foundation rushed him to hospital.
A hotel worker revealed to police that Norbert had checked into the hotel just a few hours before his fall. A security guard at the hotel told police that he heard the sound of someone repeatedly pounding on metal and searched for the source until he saw Norbert sitting on the awning on the third floor.
The guard stated that he asked the foreign man to return to his room but his warning seemed to hasten the man’s actions, prompting him to jump down immediately.
The security guard mentioned that he was shocked by the incident but had to compose himself to report the matter to the police and rescue team.
Channel 7 reported that the German man was in critical condition but further updates on his condition had not yet been made public. The potential cause of his jump was also not mentioned in the report.
In a related incident, another fall involving a German national was reported at a luxury hotel in Pattaya in June. The 57 year old German man, Martin Bernhard Roder, fell to his death at the hotel.
His room on the 33rd floor showed no signs of struggle or theft. Police found allergy medication inside his room but did not determine whether it was related to his death.
