On the day of the incident, officials met with Merina Emma and another French friend who reported that they, along with Ryan Meghan, had visited the Na Mueang 2 waterfall. They had ventured to the top tier of the waterfall together. However, Meghan had separated to explore another spot. After a mere five minutes of his absence, his friends began calling out for him but received no response. Discovering his sandals and mobile phone on the ground, they suspected a mishap and promptly alerted the authorities.

Responding to the alert, the officials immediately mobilised a search team to the incident site at the waterfall. However, due to difficult terrain and unfavourable weather conditions, the search had to be called off as darkness set in, posing a risk to the search team. The search for the French tourist who fell at the waterfall on Samui Island was scheduled to resume the next day, reported KhaoSod.

The following day, multiple parties, equipped with various tools and equipment, joined the search which commenced at 8.40am this morning, December 3. The search involved droning the waterfall from a height and scouring through the rocky crevices.

At approximately 11.15am, Meghan’s body was discovered stuck under a rock in the third tier of the waterfall pool. After an arduous three-hour rescue operation, his body was successfully retrieved. The case is still under investigation.

The disaster spot has seen several incidents of tourists falling off the cliff, resulting in injuries and fatalities. Despite being a restricted area with warning signs and ropes, it is suspected that the tourist snuck in, leading to the fatal accident. The local police have since notified the French embassy and the body has been transferred to the Koh Samui Hospital.
