Police arrested a Thai man on suspicion of murdering a woman and abandoning her body in a paddy field in the central province of Nakhon Pathom. After the killing he reportedly stole her gold accessories which were later confirmed to be fake.

A Thai fisherman discovered the woman’s body in a paddy field in the Sampran district of Nakhon Pathom at around 10pm on Monday, February 24. She was later identified as 63 year old Noi, who was strangled to death with a red belt.

Noi was wearing denim shorts, a long white sleeved shirt and gold earrings. Her shirt was inside out and her shorts were unzipped.

The fisherman who found the body suspected that a taxi driver might be the murderer, as he saw a taxi driving back and forth near the scene. He and other locals noted that most people in the area used private vehicles, making the presence of a taxi unusual.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area but did not find the suspicious taxi mentioned. However, they discovered footage of the victim sitting on the motorcycle of a Thai man, later identified as 59 year old Pairat.

Officers tracked Pairat and found him in a local gold shop attempting to sell the stolen gold accessories. The shop owner informed the police that the accessories Pairat brought in were fake, so he was unable to sell them.

Due to his suspicious behaviour, police arrested Pairat at his home yesterday, February 25. He admitted to killing Noi, stating that he was in financial difficulty and wanted her valuables.

Pairat revealed that Noi was a friend of his wife and previously asked them to help her find a boyfriend. He lured Noi to the crime scene by pretending that he was introducing her to a man.

Pairat claimed that he initially tried to force Noi to hand over her valuables but, when she refused, he strangled her to death and stole two gold rings and a gold necklace. Unexpectedly, he later discovered they were all fake.

Pairat insisted that he acted alone and that his wife was not involved. Nonetheless, officers summoned her for questioning. Channel 7 reported that Pairat was previously arrested twice for theft in the area.
