Fire in Trang car paint shop causes millions in damage
A fire broke out at a car paint shop in Trang province, destroying seven vehicles and causing extensive damage estimated at several million baht. The blaze erupted yesterday, February 3 at 9pm, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene and battle the flames for nearly two hours.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Vechayan Hiranyasuwan, an investigator at Mueang Trang Police Station, received the initial report of the fire at Narinn Trang Kolakan, a business located in Village 1, Nataluang subdistrict.
He was joined by local officials, including Somporn Onchat, the deputy district chief of Mueang Trang, Police Colonel Sanit Phonphet, and Nattapong Niamsom, the mayor of Nataluang subdistrict.
Fire engines from various nearby municipalities, including Trang City Municipality and several subdistrict municipalities, were dispatched to assist.
The affected facility specialises in car bodywork and painting services. The fire, which originated in the paint-curing rooms, rapidly intensified, engulfing the rear section of the shop.
The structure, comprising a steel frame and metal sheet roofing, housed numerous vehicles awaiting repair. Firefighters faced difficulties due to the presence of numerous thinner, paint, and chemical storage tanks, which occasionally exploded during the incident.
Shop workers and volunteers managed to move some vehicles, thinner tanks, chemicals, and gas cylinders to safety before they caught fire.
Emergency personnel took about an hour to bring the fire under control, followed by an additional 30 minutes of dousing to prevent rekindling. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the property suffered significant damage.
A witness who assisted in extinguishing the fire noted that the blaze started in one of the paint-curing rooms and quickly spread. Initial inspections suggest the fire originated from two paint rooms located at the back of the shop.
Approximately five to seven vehicles, along with various car parts and equipment, were damaged. The roof and structural elements of the building partially collapsed.
As a precaution, officials restricted access to the site, pending further examination by forensic experts to determine the exact cause of the fire, reported KhaoSod.
