Elderly woman found dead after gate collapse in Nakhon Ratchasima
An 80 year old woman was found dead after a metal gate collapsed on her, with the discovery made the following morning. A housekeeper became suspicious when the woman, who had previously called to say she would attend a funeral, did not arrive as expected.
Yesterday, February 19, Police Lieutenant Colonel (Female) Kornwika Manopsin, a deputy investigator from Phimai Police Station in Nakhon Ratchasima province, received a report of a fatal accident involving a gate at a residence in Mueang Phimai district.
The incident occurred at a house located along the Phimai-Chumpuang road, where the woman, identified as Pee, an 80 year old homeowner, was found beneath a fallen metal gate.
Her head was injured and she had wounds on her body, with blood on the ground. She was estimated to have been deceased for about 12 hours.
Rescue unit Hook 31 Korat, Phimai branch, transported the body to Phimai Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
According to Nulek, a 70 year old housekeeper for the deceased, Pee was a member of the Phimai district branch of the Red Cross and lived alone. She was reportedly in good health.
The day before the incident, on February 18, Pee had called Nulek in the evening, stating she would drive to pick her up to attend a relative’s funeral at Baan Wang Hin Temple, located about 5 kilometres away in Nai Mueang subdistrict.
Nulek prepared to wait for Pee at home but when Pee did not arrive she assumed Pee had changed her mind and went to bed. The following morning, Nulek was informed by a neighbouring resident that Pee had been found dead beneath the metal gate since the previous evening, reported KhaoSod.
As Pee lived alone, no one had noticed the accident earlier. It is suspected that Pee was attempting to close the gate when it derailed and fell, resulting in her tragic death.
