Elderly tourist’s nightmare ride: Abandoned and robbed in Pattaya
In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about tourist safety in Pattaya, the Tourist Police swiftly responded to a distress call on Monday. Concerned locals reported an elderly foreigner in distress at the J Intersection on Sukhumvit Road in the Sattahip district.
The man, identified as 81 year old Israeli national Albert Mahlev, was found sitting by the roadside, visibly lost and confused. Recognising the urgency, the Tourist Police promptly escorted Mahlev to their headquarters in Pattaya for further assistance and investigation.
Given Mahlev’s limited proficiency in English, a translator was brought in to help communicate and gather crucial details. Mahlev recounted a harrowing experience with a motorcycle taxi driver.
He explained that he had hired a taxi for a sightseeing trip from Soi Buakhao in Pattaya. Instead, the driver abandoned him at the J intersection on Sukhumvit Road, near Sattahip, and made off with his mobile phone.
The Tourist Police are diligently verifying Mahlev’s account and have planned to file a formal report at the Sattahip Police Station against the deceitful motorcycle taxi driver, reported Pattaya Mail.
Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Ensarn, Superintendent of the Tourist Police, has vowed to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the culprit.
“Such incidents not only tarnish the reputation of Pattaya as a tourist destination but also pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of visitors.”
In related news, a Japanese tourist shared a truly shocking experience on social media detailing how they were ripped off by an unscrupulous Bangkok tuk tuk driver. The tourist was charged an extortionate 6,000 baht (US$162) for a trip from Asoke to the Sala Daeng area, a journey that would normally cost around 32 baht on the BTS Skytrain.
In other news, a tourist bus driver callously struck a foreign cyclist on Pattaya Second Road, near Pattaya 8 School. Caught on camera, the driver heartlessly fled the scene, leaving the injured victim behind.
