A tragic discovery was made by a daughter who returned home to find her father, head submerged in a water container, deceased in the bathroom. The incident reportedly occurred in a three-storey building in Nonthaburi, with the man estimated to have passed away eight hours prior.

Police from Rattanathibet station received the report in the early hours of today, December 18, around 2.30am, and arrived at the scene accompanied by a forensic doctor and volunteer rescue personnel. They discovered the 71 year old man, referred to as A, wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts, seated on the toilet with his head against a 100-litre water container, his right hand inside it.

The daughter, deeply distressed, recounted the sequence of events leading to the discovery. She had been out running errands and returned home around 1am.

Noticing the unusual absence of the fan’s noise in her father’s room, she turned on the light but found the room empty. Her anxiety grew upon seeing a letter her father had left.

She then proceeded to check downstairs and, upon opening the bathroom door, discovered her father’s head submerged in the water container. She quickly lifted his head and found his body already stiff, prompting her to call emergency services for assistance.

The initial examination of the body revealed no signs of injury or foul play, leading police to estimate the time of death to be between seven to eight hours before the discovery. The body was subsequently transferred to the forensic institute for a detailed autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The daughter shared her father’s struggles, mentioning his battles with depression and other health issues. He had written a letter earlier in the week, expressing his exhaustion and hinting at his intentions.

He had mentioned that if the letter was found, it would mean he had decided to leave the following afternoon. The Covid-19 pandemic had severely impacted his livelihood, as he had been a vendor at Chatuchak Market. The decline in business post-pandemic left him disheartened, and his health had not been the same.

The letter also detailed his feelings of being a burden and his concerns for his children’s future. The daughter recounted his lament over family gatherings, which left him feeling left out and melancholy.

He had received some financial support from a relative who had recently passed away, which he intended to use for his funeral. His frustration with his inability to support his family and his declining health were recurring themes in his conversations, reported KhaoSod.

The police suspect that the man’s mental health struggles, compounded by financial difficulties and feelings of despair, may have led to his tragic decision. He had essentially retired himself early and stayed home, as he could no longer continue his business.
