Doi Inthanon’s chilly spell boosts tourism in Chiang Mai

Tourist activity is bustling in Chiang Mai as visitors flock to experience the chilly weather of Doi Inthanon, witness the sunrise, and admire the beautiful sea of mist.

Doi Inthanon National Park, located in Jomthong, Chiang Mai, reported the cool morning atmosphere at 7am, with temperatures plunging to a low of 9 degrees Celsius at the peak of the mountain. Temperatures at Kew Mae Pan stood at 11 degrees while the park headquarters recorded 16 degrees.

Today, the sky is clear with no rainfall. The popular tourist spot, Kew Mae Pan, boasts a stunning sea of mist. Several points within Doi Inthanon National Park have been equipped with park officers to assist tourists and provide guidance. Signposts detailing various tourist spots, routes, and danger zones have also been installed.

Tourists enjoyed the comfortable cold weather today, the first rays of the morning sun, and the beautiful sea of mist. They also admired the blooming winter flowers and the various waterfalls such as Mae Ya Waterfall, Wachirathan Waterfall, Thung Siew Waterfall, and Mae Klang Waterfall. However, a reminder has been issued to tourists regarding careful driving on the mountain during the late rainy and early winter seasons. The use of lower gears has been advised.

For convenience, tourists can now purchase service tickets online through the QueQ application and scan the QR code at the entrance of the national park, reported KhaoSod.

Also, Huai Nam Dang National Park in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai, reported a favourable tourism atmosphere. The weather yesterday and today was clear with a sea of mist. The minimum temperature recorded was 14°C.

Thailand is preparing for a weather change as a northern cool front is expected to decrease temperatures, marking the beginning of the cool season.
