Another mishap on Rama II road: crane and truck fall on pickup

A crane and a six wheel truck on an overpass above Rama II Road fell onto a pickup in the early hours of this morning, injuring one person.
A witness at around 3am today, April 4, shared a livestreamed video of the incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, on his Facebook account, Ant Bangping. In the video, he can be heard saying…
“A crane fell over onto a pickup on Rama II Road. There was a man injured. The crane was on the overpass, which is under construction. Rama II Road again.”
The incident took place near an entrance to Noah’s Inn Hotel in the Mueang district of Samut Sakhon province near Bangkok.
In the video, a group of construction workers and motorists who witnessed the event are seen helping to carry the driver out of the badly damaged vehicle. The victim was bleeding from the nose and slowly nodded when asked if he was travelling alone.

The pickup suffered extensive damage on its right side, particularly near the driver’s seat. A six-wheel truck and crane were seen overturned approximately 50 metres away from the pickup.
According to a report by ThaiRath, the crane was carrying a six-wheel truck on the overpass when the sling tore, causing both the crane and truck to fall and strike the pickup as it passed below.

The livestream ended late, as the witness recording the video stopped to contact the police and relevant officials to report the incident.
Amarin TV reported that the victim is 36 year old Nattaphon Khun-aumsa. He was rushed to Ekkachai Hospital, though no updates on his condition were provided at the time of reporting.

Officers from Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station summoned construction workers and witnesses involved for questioning. Details regarding any legal consequences or compensation for the victim have not yet been disclosed.

A similar fatal incident occurred on Rama II Road in November last year, when a steel launching truss collapsed during the installation of a concrete segment of an overpass. That incident resulted in the deaths of five construction workers and injuries to more than 20 others.
The road at that location had been closed to motorists for safety and debris clearance since the previous incident. It had only just reopened for normal traffic two weeks before this latest accident.
