Angry Swedish man refuses help after crashing pickup in Buriram

A Swedish man refused assistance from a rescue team and expressed anger after crashing his pickup into a streetlight in the Isaan province of Buriram on Tuesday, April 15. The man’s Thai wife told rescue workers not to take her husband’s anger personally, stating he’d had brain surgery.
The Hook 31 Rescue Foundation rushed to the accident scene on the Rahan Sai–Ban Kluad Road, near the Tajong Noi Sub-district Municipality Office in Buriram. Rescuers arrived to find a white pickup overturned near a damaged streetlight in the right lane of the road.
The foreign man, later identified as a 65 year old Swedish national, wearing an orange T-shirt, was standing near his vehicle. He sustained bruises and scratches from the accident.
When the rescue team approached to provide first aid, he refused assistance and reportedly chased the rescuers away. The man appeared agitated and rejected all help offered.
Rescuers attempted to explain that the vehicle needed to be removed to prevent further accidents and to reopen the road to other motorists. However, he refused to listen.

The man’s Thai wife later arrived at the scene and tried to calm him down. In a video shared by Channel 7, she was heard saying:
“Come on, calm down. They are here because you had an accident. You caused the accident. Now, they need to call a truck to remove your car from the scene.”

The Swedish man eventually accepted assistance and cooperated with the rescuers. His wife told them that her husband had been driving home after having a meal at a nearby restaurant. He accidentally dropped a bottle of water at his feet and bent down to retrieve it.
Focusing solely on the bottle, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the streetlight. She believed his anger may have stemmed from fear and confusion following the incident.

The woman also pleaded with the rescuers not to take her husband’s inappropriate behaviour personally, explaining that he had previously undergone brain surgery, which may have affected his mental state and emotions.
Officers from Lahan Sai Police Station later examined the scene and will proceed with legal action against the foreign national. He may be required to compensate the local authorities for the damaged streetlight.
