Thai man denies claims of deliberately spreading HIV

A Thai man, accused of deliberately spreading HIV, denied the allegations and shared his side of the story with the public.

The man, identified only as A, told several news agencies that his younger brother contracted HIV because his 29 year old boyfriend, Joe, hid his HIV-positive status. The brother only discovered the truth upon finding Joe’s medication.

Apart from A’s brother, Joe reportedly spread HIV to other members of the LGBTQIA+ community. He allegedly offered sex services and traded sex for drugs without using condoms or disclosing his health condition to his partners. Most of Joe’s sexual partners were reportedly based in Saraburi, Chon Buri, Khon Kaen, and Bangkok.

A stated that his brother had already broken up with Joe, but Joe continued to threaten him to prevent the HIV-positive status from being revealed.

Yesterday, November 17, Joe spoke to news agencies to defend himself. He claimed that he had been in a relationship with the complainant himself, not his younger brother. Their relationship began in December 2021 and ended in September this year.

Joe admitted that he had been diagnosed with HIV in 2021 and had been receiving proper treatment since then. He insisted that he had never concealed his condition or deliberately transmitted the virus.

He also stated that he had stopped using drugs over a year ago, whereas A continued to use them. Joe accused A not only of drug use but also of dealing drugs. He claimed he had urged A to stop, but when A refused, he decided to end the relationship.

According to Joe, A contracted HIV before their relationship and had refused to take medication or follow treatment.

Joe further alleged that since their breakup, A had shared false information about him on social media to damage his reputation. He filed a complaint against A and sought assistance from several government officials, but the case has seen no progress.

Joe stated that he intends to pursue legal proceedings against A, as he has been negatively affected by the false information circulating about him.
