17 year old Thai student stabs classmate for pulling down trousers as prank

A 17 year old student stabbed his classmate multiple times with a knife at a school in Chachoengsao yesterday, November 19, after he allegedly pulled down his trousers as a prank.

Teachers urgently contacted the Tha Kradan District Rescue Foundation for help, and the injured student, 16 year old Wuttipong, was transported to Sanam Chai Khet Hospital for treatment.

Wuttipong told rescue workers during the trip that he was shocked because he considered the attacker a friend. He admitted he had pulled down the student’s trousers but said he never expected such a violent reaction.

Police from Sanam Chai Khet Police Station arrived to investigate and held discussions with the parents and guardians of both students.

Wuttipong’s 21 year old brother, Nattapong, told Channel 8 that his younger sibling suffered more than 50 stitches across multiple wounds. He said the chest wound was the most worrying because it was deep and caused heavy blood loss. Reports indicate that Wuttipong is now in stable condition.

As the attacker is a minor, police are working with multidisciplinary officers to question him according to juvenile procedures.

Under Section 297 of the Criminal Law, an adult who inflicts serious injuries could face between six months and 10 years in prison and a fine of 10,000 to 200,000 baht. However, punishments for minors differ depending on police and court consideration.

In a related incident, a 24 year old man was arrested in Nakhon Si Thammarat last week for assaulting and threatening a 14 year old student with a gun in a classroom. He claimed the victim had repeatedly put his brother, who suffers from a congenital disease, in critical condition.

Separately, a Thai schoolgirl attempted to take her own life last month after a school security guard allegedly tried to rape her, and classmates later spread a false rumour claiming she was infected with HIV.

The girl’s mother sought help from a non-profit organisation to push for legal action against the security guard. She also urged the relevant government agencies to take school bullying more seriously, saying her daughter had been left traumatised by both the assault attempt and the rumours.
