Thai transwomen poses as foreign tourists to expose taxi overcharging

Two Thai transwomen posed as foreign tourists and recorded a video of a Bangkok taxi driver who overcharged them, later sharing it on the TikTok app. They called on the government to address the issue seriously.
The video, shared by the TikTok account, aisayawarin, on February 17, quickly went viral among Thai netizens. In the footage, the two transwomen flagged down a taxi and pretended to speak broken and unclear Thai, mimicking foreign tourists.
According to the pair, the driver refused to turn on the meter and demanded 100 baht for a short trip to the Huay Kwang area of Bangkok. After the driver made the overcharge request, one of the women revealed they were Thai.
The driver, angered by the prank, ejected the transgender passengers from his vehicle. In the video, the transwomen appealed directly to the Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, to take action on such issues. They ended the clip with a plea…
“PM, please help!”

Netizens shared their own experiences in the comment section.
“I was kicked out of a taxi before. The driver said there was heavy traffic and didn’t want to continue the journey, so he ordered me to leave.”
“Almost every taxi driver in the Silom area is like this.”
Reports of taxi drivers overcharging passengers in Bangkok are not uncommon. Such incidents affect not only foreign tourists but also Thai passengers. The two transwomen might have been overcharged even if they did not pretend to be foreigners.

In January, a Thai man was slashed across the face in the Silom area by a taxi driver after he and his friends refused the driver’s service due to an overcharged fare.
In August last year, another Thai passenger was attacked with a knife after refusing to pay an additional 500 baht demanded by the driver.
The driver later turned himself into the police, citing financial stress and his struggle to support his pregnant wife and two children as the reasons for his violent behaviour.

Also in August, a female passenger shared a TikTok video of a taxi driver who refused to use the meter, instead demanding a flat fare of 150 baht for a short trip.
