Two Nigerian nationals were apprehended in Bangkok following the implication of their involvement in drug trafficking by a woman caught attempting to smuggle cocaine into Japan.

Both men were identified as overstayers and are now facing immediate immigration charges, alongside being investigated for alleged drug-related offences.

Immigration and narcotics control police conducted a raid on a condominium on Navamin-Ram Intra road in the Kannayao district on March 4.

Ihejimba Bright Chimezie and Azubuike Chdiebere David were detained, as confirmed by Police Major General Phanthana Nuchanart, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau yesterday, March 5.

The men were initially charged with visa overstay and transferred to immigration investigators for legal proceedings.

Previously, Japanese police had detained a Thai woman attempting to smuggle cocaine into Japan by ingesting 59 small packets, weighing approximately 700 grammes in total. The cocaine had an estimated value of 2.1 million baht (US$62,460), according to Pol. Maj. Gen. Phanthana.

The woman disclosed to investigators her relationship with one of the two Nigerian men in Bangkok, who were purportedly involved in illegal drug activities.

Japanese officials requested assistance from Thai police, who subsequently tracked the men to the condominium, resulting in their arrest, Pol. Maj. Gen. Phanthana stated.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing, reported Bangkok Post.
