Ex-police officer shoots sister-in-law in Bangkok property dispute

A former officer from Samrae Police Station fatally shot his sister-in-law and critically injured his sister during a heated argument over property rights at their home.

The incident occurred at 1.04pm yesterday, March 23, in Bang Mod, Chom Thong district, Bangkok. Police Lieutenant Thanathat Ratsameepupa, Deputy Inspector from Tha Kham Police Station, received the call and arrived at the scene alongside an investigative team.

Upon their arrival at the two-storey townhouse, officers found and identified 69 year old Sonchai, a former police officer, as the suspect. He was in possession of a .38 calibre revolver with five bullets. The suspect had allegedly shot his sister-in-law, Sirinat, resulting in a fatal head injury.

Additionally, his sister, 75 year old Sieamnai, was severely injured after being shot in the right eye and was rushed to the hospital.

The suspect confessed to committing the crime in a fit of rage following an argument over the division of property rights within the family home.

Sonchai further revealed that the disputes over the inheritance of the property stemmed from his sister.

“After retiring from the police force, she asked to live with me, but we didn’t get along and we argued all the time. Because my sister was the one who paid off the house, I didn’t help pay the instalments, but I did pay the water and electricity bills sometimes.

“So my sister asked the court to take ownership of the house until the court ruled to give it to my sister. After that, my sister kicked me out of the house and said she would give me some money. I agreed but asked for one month.”

Following these revelations, police detained the suspect and currently looking to press charges against the former officer in accordance with the law, reported KhaoSod.
