Bangkok student shooting leaves one critically injured
Police in Bangkok have launched an investigation following a shooting incident involving a student from the Uthenthawai campus, leaving one person critically injured. The incident took place near the Maboonkrong area at the intersection of Phaya Thai and Chula 12 roads on the evening of yesterday, January 29.
Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, the Commissioner of Bangkok Metropolitan Police, instructed relevant officers, including Deputy Commander of Bangkok Metropolitan Police Police Major General Nopasin Poolsawat, and Police Major General Chotiwat Lueangwilai, to lead the investigation. The team from various police divisions, including the Pathumwan district police, is working on the case.
The incident occurred around 10.50pm when officers heard approximately five gunshots. Upon reaching the scene, they found Narawit, a student from Rajamangala University of Technology East Uthenthawai Campus, suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest. He was promptly taken to the Police Hospital for treatment.
Police are actively pursuing the suspect, reviewing CCTV footage from the area to track the perpetrator’s movements before and after the incident. The effort is to ensure they can bring the individual to justice under the law.
In light of the upcoming Blue Day on February 1, marking the anniversary of the Rajamangala University of Technology East Uthenthawai Campus, heightened security measures have been put in place. Commissioner Siam Boonsom has directed the Metropolitan Police Division 6, the Patrol and Special Operations Division, and crowd control units to maintain order, reported KhaoSod.
Rapid response teams have been organised to ensure safety, with checkpoints established at the campus entrances. Coordination with teachers, faculty, and parents is also being undertaken to align security efforts.
In similar news, an 18 year old man was shot near a health centre in Surat Thani province, shocking his mother, who had recently spoken with him. Friends reported that the assailant drove a car against traffic, calling out to the victim before shooting him.
