Austrian man hospitalised in Bangkok with 255 meth pills

Seizures unveil hidden drug smuggling plot

An Austrian man was urgently transported to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital from Don Mueang Airport after suffering seizures and passing out. A CT scan revealed multiple suspicious packages, with 255 methamphetamine pills initially found.

At 1am yesterday, June 11, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with Deputy Commissioner Police Major General Pallop Aermla and Police Colonel Narenthorn Kruengsanook, head of Hua Mak Police Station, directed officers to investigate Wolfgang Gantner in the emergency room at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, located in Suan Luang district, Bangkok.

Hospital staff reported that the patient was brought in from Don Mueang International Airport due to seizure symptoms.

Upon medical assessment, doctors noticed pink fluid discharge from the 43 year old patient, prompting a CT scan. This revealed several spherical objects in his intestines, with one having already exited, resembling illegal narcotics.

The police were alerted, and the items were identified as methamphetamine pills, commonly known as Yaba, marked with WY and red in colour.

The patient was unconscious during the seizure, with the narcotics suspected to have leaked internally, causing his condition.

The police seized the 255 methamphetamine pills found and further packages for investigation and legal proceedings at Hua Mak Police Station, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, a Thai drug dealer in Samut Prakan tried to outwit police by swallowing nearly 100 methamphetamine pills but instead ended up in critical condition at the hospital.

The 40 year old suspect sparked a high-speed police chase before attempting to destroy evidence by ingesting the drugs. However, he soon collapsed with convulsions in the street and was rushed for emergency medical treatment.

The incident occurred last night, April 17, when two Bang Phli patrol officers, Police Sergeant Major Paphawin Tamuang and Police Sergeant Major Siriwit Detthawichote, noticed a black sedan acting suspiciously on Suvarnabhumi Road 3.
