Thailand is about to be drenched as heavy rain hits 54 provinces

Thailand is bracing for a deluge today, with the Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) sounding the alarm for a staggering 54 provinces. Heavy rain is set to drench Bangkok and its surrounding areas, while the central region is looking at a whopping 80% chance of rainfall, and the north isn’t far behind with a 70% prediction!

The TMD warns that over the next 24 hours, upper Thailand will be battered by volatile weather. Expect thunderstorms, fierce winds, and heavy to torrential downpours across the lower northern region, central Thailand, and the eastern parts of the country.

TMD advises residents to be cautious of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and potential flash floods and forest runoff.

The northern region will see thunderstorms covering 70% of the area, with strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some locations. Affected provinces include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. The minimum temperature ranges from 22 to 24°C, while the maximum temperature is between 29 and 33 °C.

In the northeastern region, 40% of the area will experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in some places. Provinces such as Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani are expected to be affected. Temperatures here will range from 22 to 24°C at the lowest to 29 to 33°C at the highest.

The central region is forecasted to have thunderstorms covering 80% of the area, accompanied by strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some locations. Provinces like Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Singburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram will be particularly affected. Minimum temperatures will be between 24 and 26°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 31 to 35°C.

Eastern Thailand will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some locations. Provinces such as Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat are on high alert.

The region’s temperatures will range from 24 to 27°C at the lowest to 31 to 34°C at the highest. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, rising to over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.

The southern region’s eastern coast will witness thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in some parts. Provinces like Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat will be affected. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C at the lowest to 31 to 35°C at the highest. The sea will see waves about 1 metre high, rising to over 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.

The southern region’s western coast will also have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, mainly affecting Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. The temperatures here will be 24 to 26°C at the lowest and 31 to 34°C at the highest. The sea waves will be about 1 metre high and can rise to more than 2 metres in thunderstorm areas, reported KhaoSod.

Bangkok and its vicinity will face thunderstorms in 80% of the area, with strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some spots. The minimum temperature will be 25 to 26°C, while the maximum temperature will reach 32 to 34°C.
