Severe rainfall warning issued for 34 Thai provinces tomorrow
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning for severe rainfall in 34 provinces tomorrow, urging residents to be cautious of potential flash floods and landslides. The warning highlights the risk due to heavy and very heavy rain expected in various regions.
Tomorrow, September 11, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for parts of northern and northeastern Thailand. TMD reported that the northern region will experience significant rainfall in provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, and Tak. In the northeastern region, heavy rain is expected in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom.
Residents in these areas are advised to be vigilant against sudden flooding and water runoff, especially in foothill regions, near waterways, and low-lying areas. The heavy rainfall is attributed to a low-pressure area over Myanmar and northern Laos, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the upper Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the upper Gulf of Thailand.
TMD added that waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand would be moderate, with wave heights reaching approximately 2 metres. In areas with thunderstorms, wave heights could exceed 2 metres.
The lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf of Thailand will also see waves between 1 and 2 metres high, with higher waves in stormy areas. Seafarers are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in regions with thunderstorms.
