Flood warnings for six southern provinces, and provinces east of Bangkok
Forecasts for Phuket and Bangkok below…
People living in six southern provinces, and some provinces east of Bangkok, are being warned to brace for possible flooding and flash floods due to heavy rain forecast until Sunday. The warning is due to the strengthening of the southwestern monsoon, which is looming over the Andaman Sea, the Gulf and the southern region, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.
The TMD has forecast that there will be heavy and isolated rain storms in the eastern provinces of Chanthaburi and Trat, and the southern provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi until Sunday.
Rough seas in the Andaman Sea are forecast with waves from 2-4 metres metres and choppy seas in upper part of the Gulf of Thailand with waves between 2-3 metes high. Sailors are being advised to exercise extra caution and avoid storm areas where the waves may reach over four metres, according to the TMD.
The forecast from The Thaiger’s trusted source suggests that there is a higher chance of rain and strong onshore westerly winds in Phuket Friday and Saturday. The forecast doesn’t look much better for Bangkok in the forecast period (below). We will keep southern communities up to date with any weather alerts over the next three or four days on our Facebook page.
