Immigration officials say a number of Special Tourist Visa applications have been received from yachts hoping to enter Thailand. It’s understood most of the yachts, thought to be around 10 in total, are from Malaysia and Singapore, and seeking to dock in Phuket or Pattaya. Read more HERE.

In an effort to revive the tourism industry after a quiet 7 months without foreign tourists, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says they’ve “relaxed” the criteria for issuing tourist visas and are now allowing foreigners from countries considered a “medium risk” for spreading Covid-19 to apply for a tourist visa. The Tourism Minister says Thailand can expect a significant drop in domestic tourism unless international tourism is revived. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says local tourism figures are 40% of what they were in 2019, and are expected to drop further once the domestic travel stimulus scheme ends at the end of the year. Talk….talk….and more talk. The government is clearly unwilling or maybe unable to deal with the tourist industry crisis. It is those Thai people who work in tourism, that I feel for the most..

Regarding the Travel Bubbles considered for certain countries, it appears to me that the Thai governbment is still looking for the truffles, but not recognizing that the people are starving.

These articles have started to feel like a bad joke. The trickle of tourism with these restrictions will not move the needle. Years before normal arrivals in Phuket & Bangkok.

As long as the quarantine remains, any other changes are meaningless. The chinese wont come with a quarantine in place and neither will any other tourists in meaningful numbers. Doesn’t matter what level of risk is the country in question. Outside of people returning for businesses or family reasons. Tourism is dead and will remain that way. You can see from other articles here and in other publications the lack of international tourism is beginning to have a detrimental effect on the entire economy and the government has no idea how to fix it.
