A 21 year old man has caused nearly 2 million baht (US$57,745) in damages after he lost control of his truck and crashed into a house, destroying the roof and damaging another car. The incident occurred in Ban Na Don, Nong Na Kham sub-district, Mueang district, Udon Thani Province. Luckily, the five people sleeping inside were unharmed. The driver sustained minor injuries.

The investigation officer yesterday took another inspection for assessing the damages along with 69 year old Panya Kaewmahawong, the homeowner. The house’s condition deteriorated with the building leaning due to the heavy impact, with initial estimates of total damages, including the car, reaching about 2 million baht. A meeting at the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station will be arranged shortly for both parties, while the driver’s alcohol test result is still pending.

Lomai Chueymareung, the 51 year old mother of the truck driver, visited the accident site and revealed that her son was still in hospital getting treatment due to a broken right hand and a severe injury on his right arm which required 14 stitches. The homeowner demanded an assessment of the house’s cost, initially estimated at 600,000 baht by agreeing to demolish the entire second floor. Lomai confirmed that she and her son would take full responsibility for all damages, although the car’s value had not yet been assessed.

Anupong Kaewmahawong, the son of the homeowner, expressed his lingering shock about the accident. With the house almost destroyed, and his car also damaged, the initial estimated loss is around 1.5 million baht. However, it is uncertain if this amount would be sufficient to compensate for the losses. As for tonight, the family plans to stay at a nearby beauty salon, fearing that the house may collapse.
