Man tragically killed in Surat Thani hit-and-run accident
A tragic hit-and-run incident has claimed the life of a man in Surat Thani, leaving his body dismembered at the scene. Police are urgently seeking the driver responsible for this fatal accident, which occurred late yesterday, December 3.
At approximately 9.58pm yesterday, the police received a report of a deadly hit-and-run on the southbound lane of Road 41, near Kuan Sri Phanom, Village 10, Prasong subdistrict, Tha Chana district. Responding to the call, police officers from Tha Chana Police Station, along with rescue teams from Kusolsattha Foundation and Koh Muk Rescue Unit, rushed to the location to provide assistance and gather evidence.
Upon arrival, police discovered a blue Yamaha motorcycle with the registration plate ดตร 647 Surat Thani lying on its side along the right shoulder of the road. The motorcycle’s left handlebar was twisted and the front was severely damaged, indicating a high-impact collision.
Approximately 10 metres from the motorcycle, the lifeless body of the victim was found face down in a pool of blood. The man, identified as Charoen, around 52 years old, was dressed in a long-sleeved patterned shirt and black trousers.
Disturbingly, his head was severed from his body, with body parts scattered around the area. His head was located about 5 metres away in the overgrown grass of the road’s central reservation, with the back of the skull significantly damaged.
Nearby, debris from another vehicle was found, suggesting it may belong to the car involved in the collision.
Locals familiar with Charoen revealed that he worked as a palm cutter. The accident site is located roughly 2 kilometres from his home. Witnesses speculated that Charoen was returning home after a shopping trip and may have missed the turn to his residence.
It is believed that while he was attempting to stop his motorcycle, an unidentified vehicle, travelling at high speed, struck him and fled the scene.
Law enforcement officers have tasked the rescue team from Kusolsattha Foundation with transporting Charoen’s body to Tha Chana Hospital for an autopsy.
They are also reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for this hit-and-run, reported KhaoSod.
The body of Charoen has been handed over to his family for religious rites. Meanwhile, the investigation continues as police strive to bring justice to the victim by tracking down the perpetrator and prosecuting them according to the law.
