Elderly French tourist’s journey cut short in tragic Rayong road crash

A tragic accident occurred yesterday when a 78 year old French tourist was fatally struck by a 10-wheeler truck while cycling in Mueang district, Rayong province. The incident took place yesterday, February 18, at a red light junction in Rai subdistrict, as the French victim, Guillaume was en route to a restaurant before his planned return to France.

Police Lieutenant Thanakorn Sawalo, the deputy inspector of the Pe Police Station, received the report of the accident. He, along with an investigation team, the duty doctor from Rayong Hospital, and Sawang Por Kuson Foundation rescue officials, arrived at the scene.

They found the 10-wheeler parked at a turn near the wreck of a damaged bicycle and the body of the man lying face down with multiple severe injuries.

According to a friend, Guillaume had been cycling to a restaurant for a meal before heading back to France. As he approached the junction with a green signal, he was in the leftmost lane and had slowed down.

Unfortunately, he did not notice the 10-wheeler truck starting to turn, resulting in the fatal accident, reported KhaoSod.

Initial police actions involved taking the truck driver into custody for detailed questioning to pursue legal proceedings. Guillaume’s body was sent to Rayong Hospital for an autopsy, and the French Embassy was contacted to notify the family.
