A fatal accident occurred last night on Phra Baramee Road on the Kathu side of Patong Hill, Phuket, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving several others injured. The incident involved a pickup truck, which had been transporting workers, veering off its lane and colliding with a motorcycle.

The accident, which transpired in front of the popular Tiger Kingdom tourist attraction, was reported to the police around 6.30pm. Rescue teams from the Kusoldharm Foundation and Kathu Municipality swiftly arrived at the scene, finding 10 people injured, two of them critically.

The blue Isuzu pickup truck, registered in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, was found on its side beside the road with noticeable windscreen damage. Ten workers, both male and female, were scattered on and beside the road with minor injuries.

A heavily damaged red Honda PCX motorbike, registered in Phuket, was discovered nearby. The two individuals who had been riding the motorbike, and who were reported as seriously injured, were found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene.

The 61 year old motorbike driver, Udom Haadsoi, was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His 53 year old passenger, Kwanta Haad Soi, was quickly taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, where she too was declared dead.

The 46 year old pickup driver, Montree Saengnak, remained unharmed in the tragic incident. Post-accident, Montree was escorted to Kathu Police Station for further questioning by Kathu Police Chief Police Colonel Rungrit Rattanaphakdi.

Montree recounted that he was ferrying 10 workers from a hotel painting job in Karon back to a workers’ camp in Thalang. According to his statement, light rain had rendered the road slippery, causing him to lose control of the pickup at approximately 60 kilometres per hour.

This led to the vehicle crossing the central reservation and striking the motorbike, leaving the pickup flipped onto its side, reported The Phuket News.

Police confirmed that Montree tested negative for alcohol. As of the latest update, Montree is being detained for further questioning and additional legal action.
