Prominent French retiree and Rotarian passes away in Pattaya

A prominent French retiree and former Rotarian has reportedly passed away in Pattaya at the age of 85, leaving his loved ones to pen an online obituary.

The Frenchman, Pierre Yves Francois Andre Eraud, was born on October 16, 1938. He was described as being a great humanist and as being attached to the respect and benevolence characteristics that are common to Rotarians. In an obituary posted to the Pattaya News, Eraud passed away on March 15.

On the Rotary Club Pattaya Marina Facebook page, his loved ones posted information regarding his funeral, which was held on March 20 at the Photisamphan Temple on Na Kluea Road in Pattaya.

He was a member of the Rotary Cagnes Renoir in France before he moved to Pattaya to retire. In 2004, he participated in the creation of the Rotary Pattaya Marina and was an active member of the organisation. He particularly helped and animated works of art auctions.

During his membership, he was elected three times as the club’s president, according to the obituary. The online memorial thanked Pierre for his service all of those years.

As Pattaya is known as Thailand’s Sin City, the good deeds of such ex-pats are often commended in both the Thai and International communities.

According to the Rotary website, the club describes itself as being “a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”

“Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.”

The Rotary Club Pattaya Marina is the only Francophone Rotary in Asia, with its website listing the first and third Friday of each month as hosting meetings that start at 7pm.

The meetings are held at Siam Bayshore Resort, 559 Moo 10, Beach Road, Pattaya, BangLamung, Chon Buri 20150, Thailand.
