Love meth but are disappointed that it’s just not addicting enough? There may be a new solution for you. A doctor in Krabi warned about a dangerous new addictive substance found in meth pills.

Dr Somkiat Kijthamachet, who runs the Dr Somkiat Clinic, has been providing free treatment to drug addicts for over 30 years. He recently uncovered a new type of meth pill that contains a highly-addictive substance, which leads to immediate addiction.

“The problem I recently encountered was that there is a new substance mixed into meth pills. Those who take it get immediately addicted, and if they don’t get any more of these pills they will start having muscle aches similar to those addicted to heroin who were previously treated. Clinically it can still be cured but we need the cooperation of patients as well. I would like to warn those thinking of trying it not to do so because the toxicity of these drugs is becoming increasingly serious.”

Dr Somkiat emphasized the dangers of the new type of meth pills, which cause more damage to nerves and lead to greater brain damage. If left untreated, the drug addicts who take these addictive meth pills may start hallucinating and become a threat to others.

The doctor is a member of the Chula Alumni Association in Krabi, which works to help solve the drug addiction problem in the area. The clinic provides transportation for patients who can’t afford to travel and even prescribes medication through video clips if the patient is too addicted to visit the clinic.

Dr Somkiat also focused on the issue of relapse after treatment. He called on national and provincial authorities to provide education and professional training to recovered drug addicts to decrease the number of drug users.

“The problem I have come across is that after drug addicts are cured they get re-addicted due to stress at being jobless and lacking skills to get a job.”
